Young waterfowl hunters will have flyways in Lincoln and Clark counties all to themselves during a special two-day youth waterfowl season scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 & 14. The season is open to hunters 15 years of age and younger, but each youth must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old. Adults are not allowed to hunt during this season, however. The daily bag limits for ducks, geese and other waterfowl are same as those established for the regular season in those counties. ?This hunt is a great opportunity for an adult to spend quality time in the field while introducing a youngster to hunting, and the chance for a young hunter to experience the outdoors without having to worry about keeping up with a more seasoned hunter,? said Martin Olson, hunter education coordinator for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. ?It?s also the chance to teach a new hunter the importance of outdoor ethics and to reinforce the rules of safe gun handling while in the field.? Youth hunters between the ages of 12 and 15 years of age will need a current hunting license with a Nevada state duck stamp, but will not need a federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Stamp. That stamp is required for persons ages 16 and older who hunt migratory waterfowl. Reservations will be needed to hunt on the Overton Wildlife Management Area. A drawing for reservations will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Nevada Department of Wildlife offices at 4747 Vegas Drive in Las Vegas and 744 S. Racetrack Rd. in Henderson. The hunter, or their representative, must appear in person to make the reservation. The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW?s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen?s license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
