The Board of Natural Resources recently approved the 2009-2010 waterfowl hunting regulations. At this same meeting, the board also adopted proposed rule changes restoring six (6) days of dog deer hunting opportunity that was lost with the closure of Rayonier wildlife management area. This opportunity was shifted to Paulk’s Pasture and Townsend WMA.

“In addition to a 60-day waterfowl season, the September teal season was expanded by seven days and the bag limit for scaup was increased to two,” says Assistant Chief of Game Management John Bowers. “The restoration of dog deer hunting opportunity on these WMAs is very positive for sportsmen in southeast Georgia because it results in a no net loss of hunting opportunity.”

The September Canada goose season runs from Sept. 5-27 and the September teal season runs from Sept. 12-27. Hunting season for ducks is Nov. 21 - Nov. 29, 2009 and Dec. 12 - Jan. 31, 2010. A summary of migratory bird hunting season dates and bag limits can be found online at www.gohuntgeorgia.com . The “Late Season Georgia Migratory Bird Regulations 2009-2010” brochure will soon be available online and through division offices and at select hunting license agents.
