Separate State Hunting and Waterfowl Licenses Needed for Mississippi River Between States

DES MOINES, IA — Waterfowl hunters along the Mississippi River need separate state licenses and waterfowl stamps depending on what side of the river they are hunting on.
An article in a recently released issue of Petersen’s Hunting Magazine indicated that Iowa shares a reciprocal hunting license agreement with Illinois which is not accurate. Hunters need to have the appropriate state hunting license and state waterfowl stamp for Iowa and/or Illinois depending on the side of the river they are hunting. The same would be true for hunting on the Mississippi River between Iowa and Wisconsin.
The state-wide season for ducks, mergansers and coots begins on Saturday.
