Special Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days to be Held February 12-13 - Jan. 26, 2011
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources? (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF) has designated February 12-13, 2011, as Special Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days. On those two days, youth age 15 years and younger may hunt when accompanied by a licensed adult hunter age 25 years and older, or the parent of the youth. Regular waterfowl season shooting hours, bag limits, legal arms and ammunitions apply to the special day

Alabama artists still have a few months to create artwork for the 2010 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp art contest sponsored by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF). The winning artwork will be featured on the 2011-12 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp, which is required to be purchased when hunting migratory waterfowl. Entries will be accepted from Jan. 1 - Feb. 16, 2010.

The wood duck (Aix sponsa) would most likely serve as the representative waterfowl species in Alabama due to its year-round abundance and popularity. Well recognized by its vivid colorful plumage, it is also sought after by many waterfowl enthusiasts. Currently, wood ducks are abundant in Alabama and represent the second most harvested waterfowl species in the state. They provide challenging wing shooting as they dart through wooded swamps and beaver ponds, and are excellent for the frying pan as well.
Alabama Continues 'Liberal' Waterfowl Seasons - Aug. 22, 2008
Alabama’s waterfowl hunters will again enjoy waterfowl seasons under the “liberal” designation from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The 60-day regular duck, coot and merganser season will run Nov. 27 through Jan. 25 with a six-duck bag limit.
